What do golfers want?
I'm doing some market research on serious golfers and am trying to understand their thinking.
What's the most important benefit you get out of the sport? The thing that makes you pay all that money, practice, and keep at it for so long to get better.
Now, describe a theoretical new product that could help you get that thing. No limits to what you could imagine it being.
Something that you could personally use to give you more of what you really want from golf.
Put in a question form:
"I really wish they would come out with a new golf product that would help me ________________ ".
Thanks a lot.
PS - Not a product that would make the people ahead of you play faster so a round only takes 3 hours.
Something that would give you more of what you want from golf.
By the way, don't bother posting what you think is a humorous answer, I'll just delete it.
If you have that much spare time, call upstairs from the basement to your Mom to have her make you some Hot Pockets, and read the Want Ads.

I only go to the golf course to see all the other golfers with their little balls and big clubs.

I want what I think all golfers want-the ability to perform at my best when it matters. So I can’t imagine a physical product that could help create that, unless it was some sort of pill or beverage that would allow you to remove your conscious mind from the physical execution of a golf shot and automatically use your subconscious best swings and putts. But if you really think about it, that would make the game completely predictable and boring to watch. Because the player with the most ability would win every single time. You think Tiger dominates now? Imagine how dull it would be if every one did their best at all times; the outcome of any game of golf by any group would be predetermined.
So I guess what I really want is to be able to overcome myself and do my best even though I am susceptible to all the pressure and nerves that come along with it. That is why we put in all the work, because the goal is so elusive. If you give it to us you destroy what makes the game great.July 15th, 2009 at 3:16 am -

There’s a lot of things golfers like myself want. But true golfers don’t want stuff that is going to make the game a piece of cake. The game would be so boring if everything went dead straight. I mean ya we want to hit the ball good but the game if as fun as it already is, because of how challenging it is.
