Is golf a year-round sport?

Mallory H asked:

What do you do if you live in a colder area? What do you do for golf during the winter (do you still find a way to golf)?

While I was living in Scotland (originally from Indiana) I was amazed to see guys out playing golf in the snow…just using orange golf balls instead of white

Down here in California, yes it sure is.

For those who live in colder climates, the best I’ve heard is going to heated driving ranges or indoor ranges. Not as good as playing on the course, but sure better than nothing and helps keep the swing fresh.

Side story…I was in Myrtle Beach 2 years ago and it started snowing when we were on the 5th hole. Never played golf in the snow until that day.

Yes. People play golf year round all over the world.

I’ve played in 30+ degree weather in Colorado and it’s ok, but that’s about as cold as I’ll go. So, as long as there isn’t a ton of snow on the ground you can play.

Golf is a year round sport if you live in a warm climate. However, in cold weather climates, there are indoor driving ranges and golf simulators at golf stores. Plus if you are creative, you can work on short game anywhere.

As long as there’s not any snow then it can certainly be all year. I’ve got a friend who lives in NY and he just schedule his business trips to the southern parts of the US during the winter so he can get a couple of rounds in when NY is covered with snow.

I know that there have been a bunch of indoor simulators opening up here in the northeast. I don’t think they are realistic, but at least you can swing the club during the offseason if you want.

i live in chicago…and there is no way u can play golf round here during the winter time…from early nov to late march (if your that desperate) you can play golf round here….but w do have indoor heated dome ranges…and there is a long distance range near my house where they have wind blockers and heaters so that you can swing in a semi comfortable manner on a windless day…

bout once a winter i try to make a trip with a few buddies to florida…or arizona…or vegas…where we golf our butts off…up to 54 holes a day for 3 days…its a bloody good time on the hands…but worth every bit of it…

    i love this game!

I live in PA….and from october-april/may its nearly impossible to golf all the time (although it really didnt get cold till january this year) but we have alot of Golf Simulators around here… kind of boring hitting a ball into a tarp and watching the computer act as if the ball was going down a fairway…but its golf and you actually still can hit….so we take what we can
