I want to play college golf at a D-3 college next year?

tedtheman asked:

would it be better to A) get weekly lessons with a pro at a golf course B) send letters to golf coaches and say i would like to come out and play a round C) do a summer tournament where top golfers from high school teams go to get noticed by college coaches?

All three, but you don’t need to get weekly(i go every 3 weeks) lessons, with a credible golf coach (average $90-110/hour) that will be overwhelming. Definitely, write some coaches and play regional tournaments, thats your best chance of being seen. But, still go for D-1 if your grades are good enough and then if you don’t get in one work your way down to a D-3.

well, it all depends on your skill level. If you are just starting now, then your efforts might be hopeless, and it could just be better to go to a school better than a d-3 (academically) and just play for like the intramural team because to be honest with you, you need to be shooting consistently in the low 70s, and breaking par regularly to even be considered for a college team, and even if you are that good, education is still more important than golf because with a good education, you are set up for a great job. With a good golf game, and a bad education, you are looking at an expensive, time consuming hobby, plus a job that probably won’t pay too well. Also to answer your question, you should do everything you mentioned, and more if you want to play for a college team. I really hope you make a team, but if you don’t, just remember, education first at your age, hobbies second
