I want to get a job at my local golf course?

buck asked:

I'm only a teenager but would like to have a summer job there? Any suggestions of what to apply for? Anything specific the owner might look for in there workers? Don't say caddying or working in the restaurant/bar.

try the driving range. They would usually like someone young, dedicated, who likes golf.

Apply to be a grounds crew hand. Great way to learn the course and take part in beautifying it. Usually not much experience is required to just be a regular crew member.

Apply to become a golf starter….my husband worked this job through high school and a couple of years during college. He loved the contact with people and was able to spend time on the course after his shifts!

if they store bags for members, you can get a job washing golf clubs and loading ‘em on carts… (i did it for 3 summers when i was a teen)

    1. cart boy
    2. work in pro shop
    3. work on grounds crew

I worked on the grounds crew when I was in high school/early college… it meant getting into work at about 3 or 4 a.m., but it wasn’t that bad (done by noon or 1), and it meant free golf.

I knew the superintendent of the course, though. I would recommend just going to the course and asking if they need any summer help in the form of cart boys/pro shop workers/grounds crew members. They might have some opening between those three options.

The key to getting a job at your local golf course is to play there a lot. Make sure you send in your resume to them and once they receive it play there a lot. Meet everyone there from the caddy’s to the maintenance crew to the pro shop to the restaurant. Be sure that they like you. The first thing you should try to get is an outside job like working on the range. And as you get older apply for the pro shop. And if you really want to work in the pro shop make sure you always help them around in there and get to know how to work in there.
