How do I keep my golf gloves in good shape after a round?

Josh C asked:

I've noticed that I get much more life out of my golf gloves in the winter time, when I don't sweat and play in the rain as much. Now that summer is upon us, I'm wondering if there is some way to wash/clean off my gloves after a round in hopes to keep them from getting hard and crusty. Maybe I need to keep them in a more stable temperature environment as well.

Let me know if you have any ideas/secrets on how to get the most out of my gloves. I use a cabretta leather glove with stretchy fabric around the knuckles.

Thanks....

Keep them in a little Tupperware container. I’m serious. I used to do this with my baseball batting gloves.

I would have to disagree about sealing the glove in a container. You really need to help keep the extra moisture out of them. I’ve seen products that allow you to hang your glove to dry off of your golf bag instead of putting them in the bag where they can remain wet. There is also a product called the Glove Shaper that will allow it to dry while maintaining its shape. I have no idea if they are adjustable or not.

If you have an old hanging ID badge clip, I’d recommend placing the glove around the badge or a card clipped to it allow it to hang and dry off of your bag.

The key to keeping a golf glove useable for longer periods of time is to take it off when you are not actually swinging the club. It’s the sweat from your hands that eventually soaks and ruins the glove, so after you hit the shot, take it off while you walk (or ride) to the next shot.
Also, you can purchase a second glove so you can alternate every two holes or so.

You really need to have at least 3 gloves, and keep them all dry. When you feel one getting wet, replace it with a dry one.

Hang the wet one on the side of your bag to dry, or strap it to the windshield bar on the golf cart. This will keep the wet ones to dry. Take the glove off after you hit the ball. This will also help keep it dry.

I learned this by playing in the heat and humidity of Alabama summers. This should increase your glove 10 fold. When the leather, or fake leather gets wet it will wear a lot quicker. The key is to keep them dry at all times.

You may have to buy 3 gloves, but in the long run you will save money.

Follow Shawn’s advice. Invest in a couple of more gloves and pull them off after you hit the shot and alternate gloves during the round.
