Get in shape for golf season?
The spring is coming and I fell out of stealth and strength in my exercises over the winter.
What should I do to be in shape for golf again?
I have a lot of land to walk around on, so I could do that with my golf clubs on my back. How long should I walk for?
Any other exercises to do to improve my ability to keep walking and golfing and walking and golfing for a long time?
Thanks

Best thing to do is to get to the gym and do stairmaster for 40 minutes. You may get winded, but this is the closest thing I found to conditioning.
I would often struggle for a while when the snow melted growing up in WI … but if I would have worked out in the winter at a gym or something that probably would not have been as big of a deal. It’s hard to “get in golf shape” without doing specific exercizes.

One of the most important things is to have good balance. For example you could do yoga or the workouts on the website below.
Golf uses the whole body so try working on your cardio strength and body strength. For example for cardio you could ride your bike or go out for a jog. The scientific people say the best way to get the most out of a cardio workout is to go in intervals. So just run at a steady pase for 4 minutes then sprint for 1 minute then jog for 1 minute then start the cycle all over again. Then for body strength you could do simple things like push-ups and sit ups and even do curls with dumb bells.
Flexibility is also VERY important so do stretches before during and after the workout.

I get in shape for golf by drinking more beer. For me it doesn’t take much effort to play since I’m a classified hacker anyway. I might as well be drunk and have a good time at it, especially at the prices they charge for greens and cart fees.

I would agree with all of the above, even the beer drinking- since golf is 90% mental, if you are thinking about the game you are getting better.
There was a recent article that said 60-70% of the muscle activity involved in a pro’s golf swing is in the butt (glutes) and abs, so walking (especially with your bag) is a big help, and maybe squeeze a tennis ball or racquet ball while you are walking. And I would recommend throwing a bunch of full water bottles in your bag- at 8lbs/gal, it will help provide resistance, and give you something to hydrate with, and your bag will get lighter as you drink it.
I had a girlfriend that tried for 2 years to break 100, and she started yoga, and after 3 weeks she broke 100, after another 2 weeks she was breaking 90. The additional flexibility and mental mellowness definitely turned her game around. I would love to try the yoga thing myself, but my eyes tend to wander and I would probably scare all of the girlies in the class.
