Can someone who knows a lot about golf give me some info?

I'm new to golf. Last Summer was the first time I played, but it was only at the driving range a few times. This summer i've been to the driving range once, and yesterday i played on a course in a tournament in a 4-some. My question involves distances. i hit the ball pretty straight btw. Are these good distances? I'm 17, 5'11 and weigh about 140 pounds.
Driver: 260-300 ( i wasnt hitting it straight all the time)
3-iron: 230
8-iron: 150
those are the only clubs I swung full speed. Everyone in my group was amazed, but I didn't feel like I was playing well. I shot an 88, cant putt. Is this good for someone who has played less than 10 times?
Yeah, I found that i was a very accurate chipper. After about 6 holes I started using my 3-iron to tee off and still got on the green in 2 on par 4s. but I rarely made birdie.
What's with all these sarcastic answers? I wouldn't lie about something as stupid as golf. An 88 really isn't that good, its 18 over. What's all this better than tiger woods crap. He shoots low 60s. Being jealous is one thing, but don't think you can tell me I'm lying and be correct.

Looks as though you have some natural ability or your a freak….sporting freak that is. This are good numbers your were getting and to shoot 88 and only playing golf for 5 minutes is very very impressive. I would investigate the possibilities of playing more competitions and gettng some lessons and feedback from a teaching pro. I feel that if you are good enough now you could be something special if you had good coaching and played so much more.

Yeah those are some pretty solid distances if you are consistently hitting them those yardages. I’m 19 and have been playing golf for about 8 years. I hit my driver about 285, my 3 iron about 215, and my 8 iron about 165.
Those yardages are all on carry though, so depending on course firmness and weather the yardages will change based on the roll of the ball.
But for you playing less then 10 times that is very impressive, because most people who start can barely get the ball in the air.
But hit the range and keep practicing and you will become way more consistent. But remember distance isn’t the key, short game and putting is where you will make your money. Good luck and have fun!

I am absolutely astounded that there are so many new players who hit the ball farther than Tiger Woods who has been at the game some 29 years. Will you kindly have these averages attested by your local golf association? Then we may have verification by an authority.

Wow, pretty awesome, i suggest not going back to the range at this moment, go to your local pga and sign up as a professional and get a start on the uspga or on the other hand get a job at coles.
Have a good one…

Sure, those are good yardages if you’re just beginning. Clubhead speed is basically god given. People are born with or not. Keep working- who knows how good you’ll get.
