I wish I could help you – but I have played enough to know that I shouldn’t play!!
Best of luck – and you might try finding out if the school team has a special place where you can go to for a lot less…..

Well, i am on the girls golf team at my school. You can do the old golf ball in the house thing. WIth the cup. That does work. After every 5 shots in take it a golf club back. Driving range is the most efficiant way to practice. Look online for the cheapist ones. Because that is most likely the only way to practice hitting the ball far. The prob. about a wiffle ball is that they are lighter so you will get used to that lightness they have. But it will help with your golf swing. Also dont forget about chipping. maybe you want to get a golf ball and just throw it in your grass or grass in a nearby park and practice hitting with that too!

I am looking to make the golf team next year also, but I already have my spot secured. My best advice is work on your short game first-your coach will notice this before anything else. Any coach in the world will pick a 9th grader with a good short game before he will pick a senior with a 300 yard driver that cant make a putt to save his life. As for the wiffle balls- don’t use them, they are nothing like a real ball. Here is a place to get great practice balls:
P.S. Good Luck!!

heres a great tip:
find another sport give up your golf dream. if it’s too expensive to go pay 5 bucks or even 10 bucks to hit a huge bucket of balls at a range then you have a nasty suprise waiting for you at the clubhouse amigo. 20 bucks is a cheap cheap round. golf is the most expensive sport i have ever played. and tons of practice are required. what would you rather do. pay 10 bucks at the range that you hate going to or paying anywhere from 20 bucks to over a hundred bucks to play a round on a course.? and even then you dont play alone so if you are bad then you make the people you are playing with wait on you and it kills the pace of thier game. i am not trying to offend you at all friend but you dont seem to have the right attitude for golf. golf is hard because your main opponent is yourself. if you are looking for an easy sport try tennis, just run alot and it’s pretty cheap, shoes and a raquet. good luck manJuly 14th, 2009 at 1:22 pm -

Any elem. school has anopen field. Take some golf balls and your clubs and go there after school is out. Make yourself a make-shift flag and practice. Mark off by pacing it off exactly how far you hit each club and then write that yardage on apiece of paper and tape it to your club, When you go to a golf course find out how many paces equels 25 yards. When you go out to practice use your yardage according to your measurement of paces and practice hitting to 25, 75, 100. 125. 150, etc. yards It doesn’t cost a thing to go to a golf course and use their putting green all day if you want to. Some of the old time pros hardly ever got on a golf couse to practice but they learned the game any where they could with what ever they could find to hit a ball with. Go to a library and find one good easy to read golf instruction book and use only that book as your “bible” Don’t get multiple books as you will just confuse yourself. Last year I was playing golf in Florida and I paced of the yardage I needed to this pin about 150 yards away. I had written my yardages on my clubs and I chose the 5 iron that had 156 written on it. I said to my partner “look athow far I’m going to hit this club and I showed him the club, I then proceeded to hit the ball on the green and into the hole for an eagle. Luck? Maybe but I knew from practice in a field what to do and how to do it.

Practice on the football field and baseball field when no one is using them. Goal line to goal line is jusr a wedge away at 100 yards. Practice hitting a 9 between the goal posts. Practice hitting pitches to the pitcher’s mound, and all of the bases. Practice putting to a water glass at home. If they run you off of the fields any opne field will do. If you live in the city, a vacant lot will do. Hit to an old tire. Hit chips and pitches into a bucket at home. Your short game will improve which will help you score better.
When you do go to the range, make sure that you chip all the balls and hit bunker shots with all of them before you blast them down the range. Ranges at golf courses are usually better places to practice.
Wiffle balls magnify the spin you are putting on the ball so you can tell if you are hitting a slice or hook.. Make sure you pick a target and take a full swing when you hit them.

Learn to chip. Get DEADLY. Use a less lofted club when you can and be able to roll the ball right near the cup. You can practice technique indoors in bad weather and out in the yard otherwise.
The chip shot is the shot that separates out the golfers. You will frustrate and bewilder golfers who otherwise hit it further and straighter than you. You will par holes anytime you get near a green. You will hole occaisionally hole chips. As a bonus, you will find yourself putting better and hitting more consistent long shots.
